The Kli Yakar (Rabbi Shlomo Ephraim of Luntschitz)
born in Lenczyk and studied under Solomon Luria in Lublin, and subsequently served as rosh yeshiva (dean) of the yeshiva in Lvov (Lemberg). In 1604 he was appointed rabbi of Prague, a position he filled until his death. The year after the Kli Yakar’s publication, he was appointed Chief Rabbi of the great city of Prague, where he also served as Rosh Yeshiva and the Head of the Beit Din. Rabbi Shlomo Ephraim passed away in 1619. His son and other descendents followed in his footsteps, also holding the esteemed position of Chief Rabbi of Prague. Amongst his most famous students was Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman Heller, also known as Tosfot Yom Tov. |
Tehillim/Psalms Chapter 30 verses 12 & 13
"You have transformed my lament into dancing for me, You undid my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness. So that my soul might sing to You and not be stilled, Hashem, my God, forever will I thank You הָפַכְתָּ מִסְפְּדִי, לְמָחוֹל לִי: פִּתַּחְתָּ שַׂקִּי; וַתְּאַזְּרֵנִי שִׂמְחָה לְמַעַן, יְזַמֶּרְךָ כָבוֹד-- וְלֹא יִדֹּם יְהוָה אֱלֹהַי, לְעוֹלָם אוֹדֶךָּ |
